NARRATIVE TEXT

A. Definition of Narrative Text

Narrative Text is one of the 13 types of English text (genre) is born of the Narration (see Types Of Text) Just like Recount Text, Text anecdote, Spoof News Items Text and Text which serves to tell the story of the past and for entertainment.

B. Communicative purpose of Narrative Text

Communicative purpose Narrative Text as described above is to entertain listeners or readers on a story or a story of the past relating to real experience, imaginary or complicated events that led to a crisis, and ultimately find a solution.

C. Generic Structure Narrative Text

Each type of English text (genre) has the structure of the text on their own. Structure of Narrative Text consists of three parts:

1. Orientation
 In the Orientation section contains the introduction or introduction of a character in the story as well as the time and place it happened.

2. Complication
This section contains an overview Complication emergence of crises or problems experienced by the characters in the story to be solved.

3. Resolution
On the Resolution contained about how the characters of the story to solve the existing problems in the Complication. Usually there is more than one for a Complication Resolution.

In some references Narrative Text, there are additional generic structure on Narrative Text, ie the addition of Coda after Resoultion. So the composition of Narrative text is Orientiation, Complication, Resolution and Coda.

Coda is the last part of the structure that contains the Narrative Text changes to the characters and the lessons that can be learned from the story.



D. Characteristics Kebahasan Narrative Text

In Narrative Text, there are some characteristics are as follows:
Using the Action Verb in the Past Tense form. For example: climbed, Turned, Brought, etc..
Using certain Nouns as pronouns, certain animals and objects in the story. For example: the king, the queen, and so on.
Using adjectives which form the noun phrase. For example: long black hair, two red apples, etc..
Using Time and Conjunctions connectives to sequence events. For example: then, before, after, soon, etc..
Using Adverbs and adverbial Phrase to indicate the location of the incident or event. For example: here, in the mountain, happily ever after, and so on.
E. Example of Narrative Text

Many are examples of Narrative Text that has been created, you can see it in English Folklore's World. But for more afdolnya, the authors present examples of the following Narrative Text and examples.

Snow White

Orientation

Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her Aunt and Uncle Because her parents were dead.

(Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Snow White. He lives with his uncle and aunt, because his parents had died.)

Complication 1

One day she heard her Uncle and Aunt talking about leaving Snow White in the castle Because they both wanted to go to America and they did not have enough money to take Snow White.

Snow White did not want her Uncle and Aunt to do this so she Decided it would be best if she ran away. The next morning she ran away from home when her Aunt and Uncle were having breakfast. She ran away into the woods.

(One day she heard her uncle and aunt talking about plans to leave the castle because they both wanted to go to Ameria and they did not have enough money to bring and Snow White.)

(Snow White did not want her uncle and aunt do it, so she decided it would be better if he went. In the morning he left home when her aunt and uncle were having breakfast. He ran into the woods.)

Resolution 1

Then she saw this little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep.
 

Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, "what is your name?" Snow White said, "My name is Snow White."

Doc, one of the dwarfs, said, "If you wish, you may live here with us. 'Snow White said," Oh, could I? Thank you. "Then Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story and finally Snow White and the 7 dwarfs lived happily ever after.

(Then he saw a small hut. He knocked on the door but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep.)

(Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs came home from work. They entered., Where they found Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. He saw the dwarf. Dwarves are saying "What's your name?" Snow White replied, "My name is Snow White . ")

(Doc, one of the dwarfs said, "If you want, you can stay here with us. 'Snow White said," Oh, may I? Thank you. "Then Snow White told all her story and finally Snow White and the seven dwarfs Courant live forever.)
